Stove House
The Stove House, so called because it was originally heated by a wood stove, houses collections of orchids, bromeliads, and epiphytes. These are plants that grow on other plants. They use these plants for support only; they are not parasites.
The room is dominated by a central water tank with rice (Oryza sativa), papyrus (Cyperus papyrus), and sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum). Hanging over the central tank are tropical pitcher plants (genus Nepenthes) and orchids.
These epiphytes are often potted in bark chips, which simulate the bark of host trees in the wild.
