Impact on Smith Students in 2019
The Botanic Garden provided 28 leadership experiences for students consisting of:
Twenty two on campus internships; ten during the summer, twelve during the academic year.
Two internships with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
Four experiences for student scholars; two Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) and two independent studies.
Fourteen Smith College educators enhanced their teaching through course design, guest lectures, hands-on activities, tours, demos, and curricular enhancement grants.
The Botanic Garden hosted seventeen special events, drawing in 1,013 Smith students. These included Late Nights at Lyman, Students-Only Flower Show Hours, and workshops on tea blending, perfume making, terrarium building, and DIY plant propagation.
