Prarie Trillium in bloom!

Trillium recurvatum is a perennial herbaceous spring flowering epehmeral. Common names include Prarie Trillium, Bloody Butcher and Reflexed Trillium.
This plant is native to central and eastern United States and grows in moist forests and praries from Iowa south to Texas and east to North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
The species name, recurvatum, refers to the the flower petals which curve downward when fully open. The seeds of this plant have fleshy structures attached that aid in dispersal by ants and other foraging insects.
The showy mottled foliage and deep maroon flower are an eye-catching combination.
