The stunningly beautiful flowers of Hylocereus undatus produce edible fruits, hence the common name: Dragon Fruit! It is thought to be native to Central America. Because of commercial cultivation as a fruit crop, it has become wide spread in tropical areas across the globe. In some areas it has escaped cultivation and become invasive. It is extremely drought tolerant.

Catching the bloom of this plant is tricky; each flower blooms once and only at night. However on cloudy days in the early morning it's possible to catch the open flower before it closes.

This plant lives in the Succulent House.
